Resting for Perth Test was the right thing to do, says Peter Siddle – Cricket News Update
After recent criticism by former fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197 responded by describing the decision of the selectors to rest him, “as the right thing to do”.
During the second Test at Adelaide against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204, and in particular Peter Siddle, had to make an over tiring effort to cover up for the fast bowler. After bowling 321 and 383
deliveries respectively, the duo had only three days to recover from the fatigue ahead of the final. However, not taking any risks, the management decided to rest both players for the Perth Test.
“Common sense came through in the end. It was just the right thing to do,” said Siddle.
“Obviously I wanted to be out there playing and doing my best to try and win that game, but after going through what I did in Adelaide, knowing that if I had been the one that got injured … it would have put us out of the game a long way. I think we made
the right decision,” he added further.
Lillee had stated earlier that if he was put in the same position and asked by his captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Michael-Chappell-c63914, to rest for a Test, the skipper would have needed to hide for cover.
On the other hand, Siddle believes, Test matches nowadays are played with fewer gaps between games, as compared to old times.
“I'm not saying they didn't bowl big overs [in Lillee's day], but there definitely would have been times they had a lot lighter workloads,” Siddle added.
Despite Lillee’s criticism, several top Test playing nations employ varying rotation policies to manage their players better.
Having bowled a total of 535 deliveries in a Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Wayne-Hastings-c68914 also complained of back pain after the final Test at Perth, followed by Josh Hazlewood’s foot
injury.
