Question:

Restoring Electroplating?

I have an old Kahler tremolo system on a guitar that I would like to restore.

There is a metal base material exposed that looks like aluminum, but the rust is a moldy green.

There is a plating that is gold in color, and its rust is similar in color to brown iron rust, but with a much finer grain.

I would like to "fill in the gaps" on the plating. I was thinking of spraying a matching paint onto a Q-tip, and carefully filling in the plating gaps.

Any suggestions?

  1. Take it to an expert, you run the risk of causing more harm than good.

But using paint to fill in plating gaps will never work, I do know that.
