How can I restore natural eye tears without using eye drops? (which just covers up the dry eyes temporarily) My eyes get dried usually in the morning and gets red so I use eyedrops every morning and night to help moisturize. Can anyone suggest a better alternative or let me know of an eyedrop that can promote the eyes natural tears!?

  1. Go to your optometrist and ask for Restasis. It does take about a month to work, but it makes your lacrimal glands make more tears. It really does help of you use it as directed.

The only other option are punctal plugs. These are plugs put in the pink part of your eye, by the nose. This is a decision made by you and your optometrist.

  2. No eyedrop, that I know of, that can "put itself out of business."

A check on your vitamin and mineral intake would be in order:

Good levels of vitamins A and B6, Zinc and Potassium can make a marked differerence if any were previously in short supply, but it's not simply a case of "more is better".

Massage of the eyelid margin to open the meibomian gland pores can also be effective, in some people.  That really needs to be personally demonstrated.

If the dryness is only obvious first thing in the morning, there is a possibility of incomplete lid closure at night: this can often be deduced by a professional using fluorescein staining of the eye.

Treatment there varies from using thicker gel ointment just last thing at night, to considering operations to tighter the lower lid.

  3. I've asked my eye doctor about that before...because I have really dry eyes too. He told me that there really isnt anything you can do besides eyedrops. Kinda depressing :|.

Maybe prescription eyedrops or something? I dont know, haven't gone that far yet.

    Good luck!

  4. Drink more water, take omega 3 mercury free fish oil. I take that.  Oil is a blood thinner so if you have problems like that, be very careful.  While it is also good for the heart/moods, some people with severe heart problems cant take the oil.

You can wear those "sleeping masks" over your eyes at night, keeps the mositure in.  Be sure to blink.

There are websites, just do a search on dry eyes.

Saline solution is supposed to be good, I havent tried it yet, though.

    Humidity helps too.
