I am going to D.C. for a few days and am interested in going to a fine resturant. I don't mind paying a little but I would rather nothing more that $30 for the entire meal? Any personal suggestions. I will be downtown-so if it is there that would help a lot!! thanks

  1. UM.

    IDKKKKKK.

    KFC IS PRETTY FINE.

    KENTUCKY FINE CHICKEN.

    :/

  2. a fine dining restaurant isn't  equivalent to $30;but I catch your drift...

    My picks:

    McCormick & Schmidt

    Legal Seafood

    Zaytina's

    Ruth Chris

  3. I'd second the selection of Zaytinya, one of our local favorites.

Below are Washingtonian magazines "best" list and their "cheap eats" (think "great food doesn't have to break the bank") choices.

Be mindful that D.C. sales tax on prepared food is a whopping 10% and can easily add up. Alcohol, appetizers and desserts (plus gratuity) will also increase the bill.

If you account for 10% sales tax and 15% gratuity, that would leave you with only $24 for your entire meal. That would really narrow your "fine dining" choices. (Hence the possible "cheap eats" option, selecting "moderate" from the 100 Best list or going to a chain restaurant.) As an alternative, many luncheon menus are less expensive than dinner pricing.

  4. B. Smith's in Union Station

  5. It's Not really fine dining but while your in DC, you must go to Ben's Chili Bowl, It's the best and even though it's just a small diner, it's hella famous

  6. Washington Burger town!

    It's always downtown!

    In burgers, you will drown!

Then you will c**p color brown!

    Washington Burger SAY WHAT!?

  7. If you like Indian food (and it isn't exactly fine dining, but it is a nice place), check out Nirvana, which is on K Street between 18th and 19th streets NW.

There's a vegetarian upscale place in Shaw called Vegetate that has a deal between 6 and 7 pm where you get a small plate, a large place, and a dessert for $25.  A drink is extra, but you could drink just water.

As someone pointed out, dining can be expensive in DC because of the 10 percent food tax.  Finding fine dining under $25 (when you factor in the tax and tip) is just not happening, especially not near downtown.

  8. I don't know how far our you are willing to go, but my personal favorites include Nooshi (Thai/Japanese) in Dupont Circle. It's Metro-accessible, too.  There are also a bunch of Clyde's, too, but I think they're a bit lousy...there's one in Chinatown and Friendship Heights, both accessible by Metro. Another favorite of mine is Paper Moon in Georgetown. It's an Italian place, nice atmosphere and good food, but it's not really in downtown...but you can take a Circulator bus from downtown (I think it's $1) along M St.

  9. If you can get into Cleveland Park off the Red Line there is a great Sushi / Thai place called Spices!  From 5-7 they have 50% off alcohol and their sushi is great and reasonably priced.

Also in Cleveland Park in Indigo for Indian

Another Thai place is Thaiphoon  on Florida north of the Dupont Metro great place!

  10. I agree that $30 is not going to get you a full dinner in a really fine restaurant, but how about this for a suggestion: Capital Grille, which is very fine and very pricey, but you CAN make a meal of the appetizers and side dishes!

I would recommend the Calamari with cherry peppers, which is a FANTASTIC and HUGE appetizer, enough for a main course.  Then pick any of the vegetable sides to go with it, and you might not even have room for desert.  If you do, however, I still think you'll get in under $30.

It is at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue, right down town.

  11. I highly recommend Jose Andres' Jaleo for tapas. I also recommend the Blue Duck Tavern, but that can get expensive. If you are adventorous, try Zengo for fusion dining. There's also:   Oyamel-Mexican

                              M'Dawg- Hot Dogs

                             J. Paul's-American

                              Cafe Atlantico- Latino

                              Zaytinya- Greek/Mediterranean

                             Equinox- New American

                              Poste-Belgium
