Resturants lying about calorie/fat content in menu?

My mom said that a morning show did a segment that their "low fat menu" section that shows the calorie/fat content isn't true at all. Where they say it has 300 calories; the morning show tested it and it had 1,500 calories and such. So; now what happens? Did anyone see this segment? Did you see what resturants were mentioned? My mom has a horrible memory...thanks!

  1. That's wrong why would they lie why not just sell the product they are advertising

  2. Does any one actually think that eating at a restaurant is healthy?

I didn't see this particular segment, but I've seen some like it.

Even the items on menus that are supposed to be healthy, or labeled "low fat" contain tons of sodium, or sugar to make up for the loss of taste!

And part of the problem is food preparation. Sure these places are chains, but depending on who's cooking, there could be differences in the dish you get at one restaurant in a chain as opposed to another in the same chain.

    Something else to understand:

    Reduced fat-

means that a product has 25% less fat than the same regular brand.

    Light-

means that the product has 50% less fat than the same regular product.

    Low fat-

means a product has less than 3 grams of fat per serving.

So even if they misrepresented the calorie count, as long as the food had 3 grams of fat or less per serving, it's still considered low fat.

The only way to be sure your eating something healthy is to prepare it yourself so you know what's in it and how it was cooked!

  3. Well now that people believe it then they probley won't stop because for one it taste ok and there are different theries for every thing.

  4. Chilis and Applebees are the worst.  Cheesecake factory and Macaroni grill are pretty acurate...
