  1. I study & live in Alicante, and i love it here. I think Valencia is a nicer city, however i've never spent more than a day there so I can't comment on it too much. Theres brilliant nightlife here in Alicante, and its not too touristy in the city (apart from near the beach during the summer months) The beach is right by the city, all the bars and restaurants are really central. If i had to choose between the two, i'd probably choose alicante, but valcenia would be a very close second. I'd come over for a week or so and spend some time in both cities before you decide. As for a visa, that depends on where you're from. If you're from the UK, you don't need a visa, but you'll have to apply for certain paperwork etc after you've been here for so long. If you're from the US, you'll have to apply for a visa. You can find information here http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw...

  2. I live near Alicante, but Valencia is a great city, I would say it has more culture and things to do. The aquarium is absolutely amazing. Both have beaches so you´re spoilt for choice, either would be great for immersing yourself in the Spanish way of life. However, in Valencia you may get more Valencian dialect spoken and not Castilian Spanish so you may then prefer to study in Alicante for that reason alone. Some people speak Valenciano there too, (as we are still in the Communidad Valenciano) but alot less. Hope this helps

  3. Generally, when you are studying, the school program takes care of your visa.

I would go with Valencia, because you want the advantages of the bigger city.  the beter connectivity with the rest of the country.  Both are near the ocean, so that isn't going to be much of a deciding factor.

One caveat:  foreign students rarely have the right to work.  It's really difficult to get a work visa, but to get one in conjunction with a student visa may be impossible.

  4. Both are right on the coast. Valencia is larger and has probably a more intensive night live, got more industry around, a better suburb transportation. But it is also a matter of taste. Personally I would prefer Valencia (of those two).
