  1. Before my first co-operative education term I had to take a co-op prep class.  there, we covered how to make a decent resume.  Here's a template of what you should have:

    Do you have the following:

    _____  Heading

_____  Objective/Summary (optional, you may decide not to use)

_____  Education  (starting with most recent academic institute and level achieved)

_____ Professional Experience  (starting with most recent job)

_____  Accomplishments (if listing in one place;  you may decide to list in your Professional Experience.

_____  Volunteer Experience  (only list experiences or skills which are relevant)

_____  Computer & Technical Skills (or any other business skills relevant to the position being applied for)

_____ Professional Affiliations, memberships, certifications, etc…

    _____ Awards

    Overall Impression:

_____   Does this resume promote you;  not just a list of things you’ve done

_____ Did you grab the reader’s attention in the first 1/3 of your resume (remember the 25 -30 second rule)

_____   Have you highlighted your strengths with concrete examples?

_____  Checked, checked and re-checked for spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity

_____  Is the resume written from your READER’S perspective and not yours?

Also, don't put references directly on the resume.  Have a list of references ready and if the employer requires references, then provide the list.

Try to make yourself stand out from the crowd.  For example: try printing your resume on paper other then white plane paper.  But make sure the colour of the paper does not make it difficult to read the content of the resume.  Best of luck!!

PS. you should probably ask how to adequately prep for an interview too...  Resumes are only half the battle to getting a job.
