Question:

Resume Question Do you need a job objective section?

I’m looking for a new job and so I’m updating my resume from 2 years ago. The job objective section is outdated. I’m wondering what people think about just leaving this section out. I would have a summary of qualifications, a section on experience and a section on my education. Would the resume be incomplete without the job objective?

  1. I think your cover letter would address what your objective would be.

Then again, if you put what you are seeking perhaps it might be helpful. For example, if the job you are applying for is given to someone else, by stating your objective, they might have another position open that you would be suited...

  2. Its usually a good Idea, It shows potential employers you are ambitious.

  3. I've never bothered...I mean, isn't it obvious your objective is to get a job working for them?

  4. I read somewhere that most employers really go for the summary of qualifications. I haven't had a job objective on my resume for years, personally. I think you would be fine without it. It sounds like you have all the important stuff already.

Good luck with your job hunt!

  5. Not really, i used to see it on resumes some 8-10 yrs ago but dont see it anymore except from some eager-beaver freshers. You should include key milestones/accomplishments along with summary of qualifications, experience & education.

    All the best.

  6. It is absolutely acceptable to leave out an objective. If you are going to have one, you have 2 options: have one that is targeted which you change for every job (the better of the 2) or have a general one that stays the same for every job. If you don't have one, just include a paragraph at the top about who you are, etc. If you'd like my services, please visit my website.

  7. I always include it.  What does it hurt?  I think the more you add, the better you sound.

  8. No, you do not need an objective section.  You may want to include an accomplishment section saying how you helped the last companies you worked for.
