hello! I'm a new graduate (MS in aerospace engineering), I would ask you what are the most imporrtant things in a resume for being considered by employers and recruiters, because I'm italian but I decided to relocate in UK for living and finding my first job there.

I hope you can help me with your suggestions (especially if you are recruiters).. thank you!

  1. I would have it done professionally, and let them know that your going to the UK.

  2. Most important is that spelling and grammar are perfect - get someone to check it before you send it anywhere. Avoid cliched phrases like "I work well as part of a team" -instead give one good example of when you have done this. Use positive and active words to describe yourself but give an example of why it's the case.Check out the Careers Scotland website for advice on creating a CV.

Use a computer, handwritten CVs tend to land in the bin. Use Font size 12 and don't be too adventurous with the style. Simple is best - I get really frustrated when applicants try to be too clever with photos, layout and multiple font styles.  Do include some info on your English language skills if you are not a native English speaker. And never embellish the truth - it's not worth it when you get caught out and people do eventually.

  3. Well for starters you should call it your CV, not resume, if you're in the UK. Using American terms does not go down well here!

I don't know about the actual content itself, but definitely get an English person to proof read and check for spelling/grammar errors. If your CV has mistakes in it you won't get an interview.
