Question:

Resume question, Engineering, Overseas possibilities?

I am currently with an engineering firm right no doing some GIS type work with pipelines here in the U.S.

I have some prior "experience" previously with another "firm" with cost/project controls. I have graduated school and am really seeking a position overseas (Australia, Singapore, China). Speak some Chinese gearing me towards that region of the world if anyone was wondering.

In the last position I have been there for 2+yrs and I have not been with my current firm all that long. I had jobs in college of the retail type but am thinking they might really be hurting my future prospects.

So my questions start from,

Should I delete those previous entries? They were of no significance to my work experience now. I have read in some places on the net suggesting this. I may do it regardless of responses.

How do I sell myself better to employers overseas? Kind of gearing this question for some of the engineers who have had this experience before.

  1. General rule of thumb is you put what experience you have that's pertinent to the job you are seeking. - Unless you have nothing else to put down.

If they ask "what were you doing from 78-82", then you tell them and say you didn't consider it pertenant to the position you were applying for.

BTW, I would be REALLY specific to ask about where you will work. You might be speaking to a recruiter for an asian company currently doing work in Iraq.
