Resumption of International cricket on Pakistan’s soil – Afghan cricket team visiting
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to host Afghanistan for a limited-over series, likely in July, after a six-member delegation from the non-Test playing nations met with the country’s cricket board.
The series, between Pakistan ‘A’ and the Afghanistan national team has been approved by the board’s chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 after a meeting in Lahore.
The International fixture is going to be the first in Pakistan since the attack on the Sri Lankan team in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2009.
Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Naseemullah Danish said the development is a great prospect in favour of both countries and would help their country in exploring their cricketing talent.
While talking to media, Danish said, “Afghanistan always wanted to play Pakistan, this is the only way to raise our standard.”
However, Danish was also disappointed with the decision of the International Cricket Council to limit the number of countries in the upcoming 2015 World Cup. Danish hopes that ICC will reconsider this decision as soon as possible.
He stated, “The World Cup has always been a dream for countries like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745, there will be no charm for countries like us if we don’t get to compete. The ICC should reconsider its decision since we have the potential to do well and the standard of our
team is improving.”
The Afghanistan team did not appear in the recent 2011 World Cup because of the reduction in the number of teams.
Earlier, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 expressed his expectations regarding the discovery of new talent through the series.
All the international cricket teams have been refusing to visit Pakistan after the Lahore attacks while the Pakistani cricketers are craving for a series at home.
The Pakistani team has been hosting matches at neutral venues and this will be the first instance on an International match on Pakistani soil after the attacks.
Pakistan and India have also been in talks for a bilateral series. The arch-rivals met in the Semi-Final of the 2011 World Cup where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 defeated Pakistan.
