Resurgent Lewis shoots for win at Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012
American Stacy Lewis, who has remained in the headlines for the past few weeks, shot for the best as she is gearing up to face rivals at the upcoming Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012.
The Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia is going to feature a fearsome line-up loaded with the best of the best, but Lewis has been brimming with confidence since her last triumph at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 and has vowed to steal the show once again.
Although fired up and in her best form right now, it remains to be seen how the American star subdues players like South Korean Na Yeon Choi and current world number one Yani Tseng in Malaysia.
Na Yeon Choi is being regarded as the hot favourite for the title as she won the last edition in grand style.
Choi has expressed her vow to retain her title as she is also aware of the crowd support in Malaysia, which is sure to spur her on throughout the four days.
Although hailing from the United States, Lewis has been known as a fan-favourite contender on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and she boasts a huge following in Malaysia—something she needs to keep herself motivated in a seemingly invincible Asian line-up.
"I'm playing well and am confident about my game. This has been an amazing year for me and it would be really nice if I could add to it by getting my first win in Asia," the LPGA titan said.
Observers said Lewis is bound to wreak havoc on her rivals such as Yani Tseng and the defending champion, given her confidence she gained after retaking the second position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Yani Tseng, who still stands firm at the number one position in world rankings, will be one of Lewis’s biggest rivals on the course this week.
So far, Tseng has steered clear of a serious threat to her number one position, but Lewis is pushing herself to the limit in a bid to gain points.
According to the current stats, Tseng boasts a whopping 617.07 points despite finishing below average in most of the recent tournaments, while Lewis has earned 469.85 so far.
“It's nice to be ranked as one of the favourites though you've also got a target on your back. I've played really well this year, just been really consistent and I think that's been the best part for me,” Lewis said.
