  1. Yeah I'm pretty sure SOMEONE'S working in retail! But then again that's just me.

  2. By the way your question is asked, I will presume you are not from this planet.  First of all, every time you buy something at a store@ groceries, clothing, etc. you pay the "retail price".  A mall is an example of a collection of stores and shops selling things at "retail prices."  If you were to go directly to the maker or grower of what you want, you would pay the "wholesale" price.

the shop or store selling "Things", has to pay their sales help, rent, utilities, insurance and the person who made those "Things" yet, needs to make a profit. Hence, you pay a higher price (retail).

The maker of the "Things" sells them at what it cost to make those "Things" plus a small percentage to make a profit.  Basically, that is called commerce.

You make cookies and sell them to an organization (wholesale) as a fund raiser. They resell the cookies at a higher price (retail) and use the money for whatever purpose they needed the money.

Retail stores as a rule, are not high paying jobs.  They are entry level positions (clerks).  High-end stores pay better.

You may now return to your home planet much wiser.
