Retail theft misdemeanor first offence?

ok here it goes - I switched the tags on a pair of jeans’ and was caught by the store on my way out. I was arrested but let go after paper work was done and what not

the charge was a retail theft misdemeanor - what should I do and what should I accept to happen at my court date

also since I did pay for something (just the wrong $) can I get my money back as I never got the goods - or is this money gone I used my debit card

but I really want to know what i should do about the retail theft misdemeanor first offence and what I should accept to com I never been in any kind of trouble before

  1. Okay - First you have to accept that you got caught, and are being charged justly, right? After this, now you can break it down.  Depending on the amount of the item "stolen" will determine the charge respectively.  As far as the money, you can argue, but it probably will not go far since it was used during the commision of your crime.  Your best bet would be to accept the charge, and plea for a light punishment.  Expect to be served with court fines as well as your punishment.  You may even be banned from shopping at the store, not sure, depends on the victim.

    Since it is your first offense, they may go easy on you. Good Luck.


  2. Accept the punishment and move on. Learn from the experienec annd don't do anything like that again. Asking for a defered judgment is not accepting responsability.

  3. get a lawyer, first offense is minor but you want a deferred judgment if you can...
