I had my braces taken off when i was 18, i am now 21 and noticed my teeth were getting crooked again. Will the retainer my orthodontist gave me after I got them taken out help them go back? when i put it in i feel a lot of pressure but am worried about it placing them in a weird position.

  1. you should have been wearing your retainers ever since you got your braces off. i don't think the retainers will help them get back perfectly, but probably a little bit better than it is right now if you would wear them 24hrs everyday. they probably won't feel "right" and you should feel alot of pressure since your teeth doesnt fit it correctly anymore but they wont go to a "weird" position.

  2. If it still fits, yes. You should feel lots of pressure when you put the retainer in b/c your teeth have moved. As long as it goes in, put it in and wear it. You will likely find your teeth are very sore after wearing it though. Take some ibuprofen or aleve and try to wear the retainer every night. It won't do you any good to just wear the retainer until the teeth go back. You will need to wear the retainer until the teeth go straight and then at least 1 year to bed to hopefully let the bone properly set so the teeth will be less likely to move. The best thing is to just wear it to bed always b/c teeth like to move.

  3. it will work i had the same problem and now my teeth are all straight :)

  4. You are so lucky it still fits, so don't hesitate to wear it. If you had waited too long, you'd have no choice but to get a new retainer to just hold them (as is) or get braces again. Keep wearing it every night until it isn't tight anymore, then just try it on periodically and wear it when it starts to feel snug. Also, if you have wisdom teeth, they may be impacted (under the gum). If this is the case, they will continue to put pressure on your back molars until they are removed, so get them evaluated.

  5. it should do the trick,

    even if they don't work,

they can only make your teeth better,

considering that is what your teeth were likeback
