Retainer question??

Hi,

It's been almost a year since I got my braces off. I have worn my retainer every single night since, but I have noticed my bottom teeth have started to shift. My retainer still fits, but I want to have perfectly straight teeth again. My orthodontist said that if I wear my bottom retainer 24/7 for a few weeks they should go back, but I was looking at previous answers for the same question and everyone was saying that it's not possible for my teeth to go back.My teeth are certaintly not bad, but there not as straight as they use to be.

Whats the truth? Will my bottom teeth shift back if I wear it 24/7 for a few months?

Thanks for all answer!=)

  1. Hi!

    Well first of all, retainers are used to keep the teeth aligned and straight so that they do not shift back into their original positions. I'm sure that your orthodontist would be right instead of a few people on yahoo answers who disagree with a person who has many years and experience in the dentist field.

    I surely do think that if you do keep your retainers on 24/7 your teeth will get aligned.. Also, you should ask your dentist to tighten your retainers so they don't feel loose on your teeth.

    Including, very minor adjustments with the teeth is perfectly normal in my opinion..  Braces never cause a permanent effect which means that when one gets braces their teeth will be 100 % perfect for the rest of their life.

    My friend had braces and she never used to wear her retainers and so her teeth started to shift back which meant that she had to get braces again.

    Hope this helps!
