Retaining Test spot will be a challenge says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 – Cricket News Update
England’s Test Skipper, Andrew Strauss, recently stated that it was a tough journey for his national side to earn the World Champions title under the format, but retaining the label will be a tougher task for the Poms, in order to remove their image as the
underdogs of the cricket fraternity.
It was this summer when the English side manage to secure the banner of Test Champions’, and that too on their home turf, where the Strauss led squad handed over a humiliating streak of defeats to the Indian tourists during the 4-match competition, which
resulted in a 4-0 triumph for the English hosts.
However, not just under the Test format, but the Poms managed to retain their might over the Men in Blue during the limited overs fixtures, snatching anther impressive clean sheet.
As for Strauss, in one of his recent interviews with the Sky Sports, the Captain admitted that it was a difficult road to the top spot, but retaining the post will come as a challenge rather than as a hurdle since the losing the title will be quicker than
what it took to achieve the mark.
“I think we've generally had underdog status because we haven't been the best in the world. It's a new challenge for us, but that's not a bad thing. Having worked very hard to get to number one it's quite nice to have that challenge dumped on your plate
straight away,” said Strauss.
“We've got to be just as desperate as we were to improve and to keep playing good cricket. But there's always going to be that thing that we're number one and possibly that feeling that we could take or foot off the gas,” he added.
Having recently marked a successful Test assignment against the Men in Blue tourists, the English side is scheduled to face team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in next year’s first Test series between the two teams, who will lock horns for the nail biting bout, set to kick off
in January 2012.
The series will begin on January 17, and will feature a 3-Test match competition, held between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
