Question:

Retaining wall question!

There was a retaining wall on my property when I purchased it, however, it was poorly done. The wall itself was done pretty well, there was just not the fabric put behind it to keep the weeds and stuff from growing through the bricks. I was wanting to remove all the bricks and place the fabric and put the bricks back. Everyone else I have talked to says that is just a waste of my time and I could just spray the area with weed killer to keep them from coming through the wall.

What would you do? Suggestions?

  1. For me I would take the bricks down, place the filter cloth and set the bricks back.  If you manage the weed with sprays you will be doing it every year and you will be limited in what you can plant in that area.  But you should judge it based on how much work you are willing to do and how many friends will come over to help.

  2. first, pull weeds by hand, then spray with an herbicide like round-up. You may need to spray them again in a few weeks. Put down some pre-emergent! That is going to stop the new weed seeds from germinating, but wont affect existing plants. It stops the seeds from sprouting.
