Retief Goosen makes a comeback: Live leaderboard of BMW Internation Open
The 23rd edition of BMW International Open is underway at the par-72 Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, Germany. Here is a quick look at the leaderboard after the first few hours.
South Africa’s Retief Goosen teed-off from the back and currently occupies the fourth spot on the leaderboard after posting a score of four-under par. The 42-year-old veteran started the day with a slow pace, but decided to change
the game-plan as he approached the last four holes at the back.
Goosen's maiden accomplishment of the tournament arrived at the par-4 15th, where he hit a fairway wood from 235 yards to card a birdie. Leaving the next two holes at par, the player sealed the back nine with another
birdie and a score of two-under par.
Curbing the pressure posed by the undulating fairways of the front nine, the South African managed not to lose his cool and picked two birdies on his way to the clubhouse.
He was joined by Danny Willet of England. The player who is struggling to keep his card on the European Tour, teed-off from the back and carded a fabulous birdie on the par-5, 11th hole. The hole is itself a delight,
with trees on both sides of dogleg left and a huge serene lake in between the fairway and the green.
With the direction of the wind against the approach of the shot, Willet took a risk and trusted his shot iron on the fairway. The shot though, missed the target and stopped in the shade of a huge tree on the right side. From there,
the player took an aim of the green and managed to hit it in regulation.
Leaving the next five holes for par, the Englishman dropped a shot at the par-3, 17th hole, which has a pear-shaped green. Untroubled by the debut loss, the player clamped a birdie at the immediate hole and sealed it
with a score of one-under-par, 35.
Marching his way to the front, the player picked four more birdies in nine holes and left for the clubhouse with a score of 68.
