  1. I don't know about it becoming the"norm" however for the people I've seen I think it's all in the money so give it a lot of thought and if you do retire shut up and go-

  2. oh..i'm so with slashpot !  I was just thinking..wish Licca, Bucks and Clement would change their mind!!

I guess some of the boys make decisions to retire coz it feels right at the time, but maybe they miss the game so much they want to give it one more shot.

I is becoming the norm but when the footy greats retire i bet a lot of people are wishing they would change their mind and come out of retirement!

  3. yeah it shocked me when Fraser put his name back in to play AFL again

  4. I heard Ron Barrasi is making a comeback, but only if he plays on the ball at Melbourne.

  5. Now this shows our cultural differences ...I haven't a clue what you are talking about...sorry ..got on here by mistake ..!!!

  6. Kev,You're joking about Glenn Manton, ain't you ? He only got a game because his uncle, Alec Epis spoke up for him.

Retiring from a club is a way of getting out without any negativity. Nominating for the draft, gives the player some sort of club choices to make a fresh start and pick up some  alternative coaching skills before they are  pushed aside altogether.

  7. Story in the newspaper this morning about the G Train. Apparently he was going to shack up with some sheila in Switzerland (Switzerland - of all places!!) but she has given him the flick & he is coming home (He is over there now).

So if he's coming back home to Melbourne, you can't blame him for wanting to resume his career - because who'd want to live in Melbourne & have time on one hands???

By playing AFL it will take up some of his time of each day - therefore making the city a bit more bearable.

Sources close to GT say he will only play for the Saints - dunno what will happen if anyone else selects him.

EDIT:::::: Lover from Ozz - Please read my "About Me" page & how about letting me make a single post without you making some immature comment about it. Do I worry you SOOOOO much with what I say???? Please get over it & move on!

  8. No comment on the retirees Big Kev but Imawunda really does have to change his name to Imawanka!

    Doesn't he??

Hey Imawanka, if you didn't post questions that either insulted people from different states, or made some derogatory comment about how stupid we are for following different teams, then I wouldn't be so "immature"

I read your profile page and suggest you go up and stay on your friends sheep station, you'd probably find someone  or something there that won't argue with you!! Baaaaaaaa!!!!

  9. Don't think it's the norm, the 3 you mentioned Gehrig will probably only get a one year deal, Michael deal will be short, and both these players didn't really leave the game for a year they played siad they would retire then play again.

As for Dew, he actually spent time out of the game as he had lost the passion to play, I guess he got it back and wants to be part of it again ...  You walways miss what u have when u dont have it anymore.

Hate to think it's the norm though, it will end up like free agency if that's the case

  10. Don't know if it's becoming the norm, Kev, although I don't see an overall rise in this behaviour simply because a few players have done wierd things this season, but I DO hope that Buckley, Clement and Licca follow the same path!

    (Wish it was March!)

  11. get robbie flower back on the wing at melbourne , would provide some much needed pace.

no but seriously , i saw mal in thailand 4 weeks ago and he honestly looked like a shaven gorilla.  pick him up for sure.

  12. Not sure why Gehrig quit. Looks to me he would still have a year or two left in him.

Stuart Dew wants to leave Port, wouldn't everybody?

  13. Retire and not to go back into the draft

  14. looks like it although maybe the players had actually thought it over after the trade week and decidied that a mistake had been made. who would want gehrig anyway too old to use a pick on now isn't he?

  15. Fraser's actually a cousin of mine and so I've followed his career with interest.  I was surprised he pulled the plug.  I'll roll out the conspiracy theory, who would want him?  Gold Coast Kangaroos? The only way he could get released?

Stuey Duey, he'd be like 97 now wouldn't he? And Mal Michael would have to be a Norm by now surely?

Otherwise, I know the pain of hanging up the boots, maybe they're just all missing it too much or maybe there's more money around for experienced players after the mass exodus this year?

    Well some theories anyway.

  16. If they wanna play again then just let them play again.

  17. Gehrig originally came back to Melbourne to rejoin Malthouse and play at Collingwood .   His manager Ron Joseph didn't want him at Collingwood, and now Joseph is a Kangaroos board member, so who now has him in their sights, could it be Collingwood or the Roos ?

  18. It seems that way doesn't it. It's a bit unfair on the fans and team mates when they give the players a big send off only to find they change their mind the following week.
