  1. Cost of living is a concern. Since retiring means you don't have work and a secure source of income.

  2. Things to consider....

    1.  Cost of living

    2.   Access to services (maid, housekeeper, etc)

    3.   Access to services (Electrician, plumber, car repair, etc)

    4.   Taxes

    5.   Property rights (can you buy property)?

    6.   Cost of resident visa, entry/exit costs.

    7.   Safety (police, guards, ~ Sidewalks)

    8.   Language - something you can understand or learn.

    9.   Medical services, insurance and costs. (you ain't getting any younger).

That's all I can think of at the moment... Of course it helps to be married to a person from that country.

  3. If you come from a first world country it can be very disconcerting to live in a place with pervasive corruption and unequal or no protection under the law.

  4. It's the person that makes his/her home

Away from familiar people, places, culture, religion and loved ones

Everything also depends on the country whether it's richer or poorer than the country you came from dictates the conveniences, the depth of your money's reach, and potential for income.
