Retrain for a doctor in uk?

i am planning on goin to america to become a doctor

but if i was to come bac to scotland and work as a doctor

would i have to retrain for uk medicine first?

  1. No, as long as you can satisfy the GMC that your medical training/practise meets the UK criteria (there really shouldn't be an issue) it's fine.

    My dad trained in the states then moved here and it wasn't an issue (although this was some years back) I know medics at work who trained in the states and are working here, it isn't usually an issue.

    You may have to do a little training regarding UK's practise/procedures, before you get your registration but that won't take long.

  2. No you would not have to retrain. You could submit for GMC registration. American qualifications are basically accepted in the UK.
