Rettig should be ready for Saturday return
Boston College Eagles’ quarterback Chase Rettig is said to be ready to go for the club’s upcoming game against the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday 16 October.
Rettig suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of the club’s week four loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The injury kept the freshman out of the team’s loss to the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday 9 October.
Rettig was relieved by Mike Marscovetra in the game against Notre Dame. However, Marscovetra was ineffective and was replaced with Dave Shinskie for the game against the Wolfpack. Unfortunately, Shinskie was ruled out of the match-up against the Seminoles
after suffering a concussion.
The injury to Shinskie will move freshman Josh Bordner up the depth chart, making him the third-string quarterback behind Rettig and Marscovetra.
Rettig experienced his first ever start when playing against Notre Dame and therefore still remains untested. Nevertheless it appears as though Boston College, at this point, is willing to try anything in the hopes of getting their season turned around.
The Eagles have struggled on offence, turning in the nation’s 66th ranked passing offence and 110th ranked rushing offence. Moreover, the club continues to have trouble on defence, ranking 66th in the country in points against.
Initially it looked as though the Eagles were ready to have a productive season, beating Weber State and Kent State to start the year. However, the club has gone on to lose their last three games, against Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and North Carolina. The
losing streak marks the first time Boston College has lost three consecutive games since 1998. Unfortunately for the Eagles, their job does not get any easier, as they are set to take on the 16th ranked Seminoles.
Rettig was fairly effective in his one appearance this season, completing five passes for 72 yards, while throwing one touchdown.
