Return from groin strain: Houston Texans’ WR Andre Johnson hopeful of health, fitness in future
Houston Texans’ injury-riddled wide receiver Andre Johnson remains upbeat about his health and fitness in the future after having overcome with a number of injury problems he has faced since the start of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season.
The latest one was the mild groin strain that forced the player on the sidelines for a week from training camp and the past Monday was his first day at the camp after recovering from it.
He suffered the injury during a run in the initial phase of training camp. Earlier, it was thought to be a serious injury, which could have limited him this season if not ousted altogether, but later scans results showed it was only a mild strain.
Still, the player needed a week’s rest before reporting back to the camp. He had earlier missed organised team activities because of an arthroscopic surgery he had on his knee in July this year.
It was another injury scare for the player as he had missed as many as nine games in the past season with a hamstring. He had suffered the injury at the start of the season and missed six games straight. He returned for a couple of ties in between before
missing another consecutive three with the same problem.
The Texans’ receivers’ situation is not an ideal one this season and any injury scare to the leader Johnson can prove to be a major setback to their offence.
The team is coming out on the field as Super Bowl contender this season, after winning the American Football Conference (AFC) South division and making to it the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history last year. This year they are anticipated
to do even better or at least maintain the last season’s record.
Both targets are challenging for the second round newbies. They can be even more difficult to achieve if the team suffers in the players’ strength at any position due to injuries or any other problem. Some positions, like of Johnson, are more significant
to the Texans’ overall squad balance and any issue at those can push the team’s chances of progression this season far away.
