Question:

Returned from vacation to find scratch in cat's ear? Not bleeding, but looks like it did?!?

I went on vacation for three days and left my two cats with family (not cat people). They took care of them fine, but they didn't spend time with them so they didn't see the scratch. It's not bleeding, but it did. It's red and has some scabs. It spans the base of her ear (she's seven, unfortunately has her front feet declawed and is spayed). She's not whining about it- just meowing at me to welcome me home. Could she have scratched herself with her back feet? What happened? Should I call the vet?

Thank you so much!!!

  1. highly unlikely she scratched her own ear with her back paw...dont leave your cats with these people anymore if they arent cat people they dont know how to properly care for cats...clean the area with hydrogen peroxide once that dries then apply neosporin to the area and she will be fine in no time

  2. I don't think its anything to worry about, occasionally pets accidentally scratch themselves by itching to hard or something like that, its happened to my pets allot.

  3. Does the family have other animals? maybe they picked up flees

or its even possible ear mites. Call the vet and see what they have to say. And as far as her scratching with her hind legs that's the only way they can do it..
