The German international is saddened by his departure to Borussia Dortmund in the summer and insists he has nothing against his current side.
Marco Reus will be heading to Borussia Dortmund in the summer after the season ends for an estimated fee of 14.5 million pounds. The transfer was confirmed by both clubs as one of the most sought after transfers in German football in recent times reached its conclusion.
The striker was linked to various clubs in the January transfer window and his future had been under widespread speculation for the last few months.
Reus claimed that he has nothing against his current club, Borussia Monchengladbach. The player admitted that he will surely be saddened to leave the club in the summer and that his move to the Borussians later this year is purely for professional reasons. He admitted that his time at the Borussia Park so far has been great and he has great respect and affection for the club.
The former Rot Weiss Ahlen stated that he can never forget what the club has done for him in the past few years as he got the chance to prove himself at the highest stage in one of the best leagues in Europe.
“It's important for me to clarify that this wasn't a decision against Gladbach. I've had a wonderful time here up until now and Borussia gave me the chance to prove myself in the Bundesliga and to develop into the player I am now,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The forward insisted that he wants to play for a club that can challenge for trophies and also wants to be a regular part of the UEFA Champions League in the future.
“I'll be sad to leave, as it's been such an important environment for me. But I've decided to take the next step in the summer and I want to play in a side that can fight for the title and give me the guarantee of Champions League football. Dortmund can do that,” he concluded.
