I have been doing the green thing for about 3 months now, and I feel Great. I love bagging my own things in my own bags and not worrying about wasting a plastic bag. Or my groceries ripping out of the single bag the lady packed them in, and falling in my drive way. I started out with two walmart bags, then bought two stop and shop earth day bags, and finalized it with a couple of designer brands to avoid having to get every stores bag, it cost a bit more but I feel it is big and worth it. I have posted what my bag looks like. So how long did it take you to get in the grove of it? How do you feel? and What type of bag did you get, store brand name or designer name?

Personally I really feel good to be doing something other than adding to the issues. I feel like I am helping out.

  1. Steam is right in this case.  If you're older and lived during World War 2, or if you are from a rural area originally (as I am,) none of this is actually that new.  I'm 26, grew up reusing and recycling because it's what we had to do with little money.

I also don't think you do quite get the idea.  Asking what type of bag we use (store name or designer name) is still fairly materialistic. The green movement isn't about brand names, but using and reusing what is available.   I can tell you're from the Northeast, and it isn't just the fact you mentioned Stop and Shop LOL (I live in CT.)

  2. for all of us that were alive during WW ll , this is all so familiar.

The only difference is that we did it to survive.  Now you all feel so self-righteous and feel so good, I just have to laugh.

Keep doing this and even more if you can in every way you can think about,  We need everyone to realize we don't need all this stuff.

When ration books are re-issued and foods like sugar and meat are limited, gas was rationed to a few gallons a week,

us old timers will know how to survive.

It will be the hardest on you young people as you feel you are all ENTITILED to an easy life.

  3. I've been doing this for some time.  Not only do I use cloth but when they wear out, I cut two holes in the bottom and use them as diapers!

I figure you can't recycle more than that!
