Reverse gear not working what has caused this

car information: Volkswagen Golf GL 1.8 year 1995.

Situation - : I'm learning to drive this is my mums car.

Recent repairs -: the car has been brought into a garage this morning had the rear wheel barrings repaired, drive belts replaced. (could any of these caused this problem?)

PROBLEM: when you select reverse gear it stays in a forward gear, the bias is no longer working and it is temperamental to which gear you have put it in.

What has caused this,

i'm a considerable learner been riding 250 miles a week for the past 4 months on my motorbike.

  1. To get a VW in reverse, you have to push down on the stick and shift it into 2nd (reverse)

  2. check clutch fluid

have the transmission fluid checked if they changed that could be your problem

if its manual or automatic then something is worn keeping you from getting into reverse gear

  3. don't think so

  4. auto or manual...auto  got fluid....manual check clutch fluid.
