I have a Gateway computer that came with Vista Home Premium and I wanna revert back to XP. I have a SATA or SATA II hard drive...(doesnt think it matters) and I try to boot the installation of XP from the CD on startup. Well, I get past the agreement and when I go to select the drive with the partition i want, if I press any button I get a blue screen error that says something about a stop error or something. Please help, I HATE Vista!!!

  1. This is completely taken from the website listed in the source box below:

    --------------------------------------...

    This is what you need:

    - Windows XP installation CD

    - MS Dos environment boot disk (more info)

This is what you should do:

    1. Start your computer with the Windows XP installation CD in your CDROM drive (note: you may have to change your BIOS settings to give priority to loading your CDROM drive instead of your hard drive!)

    2. In the setup type R to repair an existing installation

    3. Enter "fixboot C:\" (where C:\ is your Vista root, replace C with any other letter if applicable)

    4. Enter "fixmbr C:\"

    5. Enter "EXIT"

    6. Then close the Windows XP setup and restart your computer with the bootable floppy or CD

    7. At the command prompt type format C:\ (note: all data on C:\ will be removed, so make sure you've made a backup before doing this!)

    8. Now restart your computer with the Windows XP installation CD in your CDROM drive

    9. Install Windows XP as usual

This should remove your Windows Vista installation and make XP the default operating system.

    --------------------------------------...

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

  2. ez answer you need to down load and install the driver for your hard drive

when ever this happens to me (the install gets to 70 % and blue screens  with win 200 win xp or vista ) i research to see if there is a driver for my hard drive and down load it to a usb drive or cd or floppy

then when you reboot you will need to hit the f6 button and then install the driver

after that you will need to run the install again and this time i bet it will not stop at 70%

    good luck and take care

  3. You probably have to format your hard drive and then you should try to install XP on your computer.
