Review Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder?

Hi,

I am planning to buy a new camcorder. This will be the first camcorder for me. I am not a professional videographer or anything like that. It is for home videos and vacation etc. The features i am looking for is to have a good optical zoom so that i can shoot someone from across a soccer field. Further it should give a good video in night with less light. And it should also be able to take decent quality still images.

I was looking at the reviews on cnet and found a good rating for Sony HDR-SR11. But it seems to be little out of budget for me (around 1000 bucks). I am wondering if i should go with this. Can someone say that it is worth it. It will be great if people can suggest other good hard disk based camcorder. Should i even look at MiniDiv based camcorder? Aren't they little outdated now.
