Review of the News: Birmingham City and Chelsea
BIRMINGHAM CITY
It has been confirmed by Birmingham City that the club is trying to sign Tottenham Hotspurs’ want away striker Robbie Kean.
The Blues manager has also admitted that he is looking for a striker in January transfer window and a quality forward with Premier League experience is his priority. Moreover, Robbie Kean has also fallen down the pecking at Tottenham Hotspurs and has failed
to engrave his name in the starting eleven at White Hart Lane. Robbie Kean has made only 9 appearances for the Spurs in this season therefore he is in desperate need of first team football.
Furthermore, Birmingham City’s lack of striking power in the front is the major reason why the Blues have been struggling in the bottom zone of the table. Midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gardner-c9475 is Birmingham City’s top scorer of this season with only five goals.
Alex McLeish signed the towering Serbian international Nikola Zigic for hefty £6m in last transfer window but the summer signing of McLeish has failed to impress at St. Andrews.
Along with that, Birmingham City’s top scorer of last season, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cameron-Jerome-c8284 has failed to reproduce his goal-scoring form and has only scored once in this season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Leeds United player and spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, has vast Premier League experience and can end Alex McLeish’s problems in the attack.
CHELSEA
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has claimed that he would look to strengthen his squad in this current transfer window. Chelsea, who let go 5 players during the summer transfer window, have one of the most depleted squads in the continent. Moreover, a
shortage of full fit player would have serious consequences to Chelsea’s campaign of FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and Barclays Premier League.
Ancelotti said: "We are not desperate. If everything stays okay, without injuries, then we will be able to fight back for the title without any new players. It is very important Alex comes back fit to play. For this reason maybe we are looking for a new
player because in February when the Champions League games are back and we hope we are involved in the FA Cup and the Premier League, every game will be important.”
The Chelsea manager continued: “We've had a problem in the last two months with injuries, everyone in the club knows what the problem was and we have to improve. But if the club needs to make an investment it will not just be for this year but also for the
future. We are looking for a young player with experience, a young player who doesn't need to take time to adapt."
One-nil defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in Barclays Premier League saw Chelsea drop down to fifth spot. The English champions have earned 35 league points out of 21 games.
Chelsea’s next match is against a Championship side, Ipswich Town, in the third round of FA Cup. The Blues will play their next Premier League match against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 on 15th January 2011.
