Manchester United
The Red Devils’ boss is refusing to take much pleasure from the fact his team remains undefeated this term and is still angry at the points they have tossed away. There is clear cut reason and that is Manchester United have drawn too many matches. Indeed,
Manchester has finished level in as many matches this term as they have actually won. Not that Sir Alex was complaining last week when, by his own admission, Manchester could have been six goals adrift before they launched one of their famous comebacks to
earn a share of the spoils and deny Aston Villa a deserved win.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “People make a story about us being undefeated, but we've thrown points away. Last week we stole one so maybe that balances itself out. But we are still angry at ourselves at losing late goals.”
Newcastle United
The Magpies manager has warned his talismanic striker, Andy Carroll, to keep his feet on the ground as his stock continues to rise. Andy Carroll did his blossoming reputation on the pitch little harm with a creditable display on his international debut,
and speculation over his future is already mounting. The 21-year-old has been told that the good times he has enjoyed so far this season could just as quickly turn to bad if he does not maintain his standards.
Hughton said: “At this moment, he is on a high. He is playing very well, he has made his
England debut - but he is a striker and strikers will go through barren spells where perhaps they are not playing so well and where they are not scoring goals.”
Stoke City
The Potters goalie, Asmir Begovic has apologised to his national team for not joining them for the international duty and has explained a severe bout of illness prevented him from doing so. The Bosnian goalkeeper featured against Stoke’s 2-0 win over Liverpool
last weekend but did not join Bosnia for the match against Slovakia. The 24-year-old goalkeeper has revealed that he was suffering from illness following an injection and could not even bring himself to contact the national boss.
Sunderland
Steve Bruce is delighted with Sunderland's response to one of the blackest days in their recent history. Since crashing 5-1 at local rivals Newcastle United, their record has been impressive with victory over Stoke and a deserved draw at Tottenham laying
the foundation for a remarkable 3-0 win at Chelsea.
Bruce said: “To get seven points from nine from Stoke, Spurs and Chelsea and to play with such energy was terrific to see. It will repair a bit of the damage from
Newcastle. It goes to show how crazy football is.”
