Review of the News: Manchester United and Sunderland
MANCHESTER UNITED
Manchester United’s most experience striker, Michael Owen, could be back in time for the festive fixtures. The former Liverpool attacker has finally made a comeback s and is reported to be fully fit following a hamstring injury which he sustained two months
ago.
The legendary manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson told: "He is doing very well. He took part in the football side of it last week. I would say he's two weeks away [from playing]. We need to make sure he does a good stint of football training
before we bring him into the games."
However, Manchester United’s injury-prone midfielder Owen Hargreaves is not expected to return to first team in near future as he is also suffering from hamstring injury. While talking about Hargreaves injury, Sir Alex added: "It's a bad blow for the lad
and it's hard to take, given the length of time he's been out and the amount of football he's missed."
Manchester United are the only unbeaten in the Barclays Premier League are currently leading the table with 34 points to their name out of 16 Premier League games.
The Red Devils defeated Arsenal by one goal at Old Trafford last Monday to top the table with one game in hand.
Manchester United’s away record has not been very impressive since the start of this season as they have won only 1 match and drawn six. Sir Alex Ferguson and his army will make a trip to Stamford Bridge this Sunday to face reigning Premier League champions
Chelsea.
Last year, when Manchester United made a trip to Chelsea they had to suffer a defeat which eventually proved very crucial in tittle race. With only two points lead at the top of the table, Manchester United will look to continue their unbeaten form against
Carlo Ancelloti’s men.
SUNDERLAND
The Black Cats manager Steve Bruce has praised his young starlet Danny Welbeck for performing extraordinarily in this season. Danny Welbeck, who is on loan from Manchester United, has scored four times in last three matches. Moreover, Welbeck was the stand
out performer for the Black Cats when they defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge by three goals to nil.
However, Sunderland manager acknowledged the odds of signing Danny Welbeck permanently are fading by the goal. Steve Bruce said: "He's done fantastically well. I think the lad has just enjoyed playing. He needed to play. Of course it'll cost a few quid to
try and buy him but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. If I'm being honest, I'm sure he's still got a part to play with (United manager) Sir Alex (Ferguson) and we've got to accept that."
Steve Bruce and his men are currently placed seventh in the Barclays Premier League with 24 points to their credit out of seventeen Premier League games.
Moreover, Sunderland drew their last match against Fulham at Craven Cottage and this week they will welcome in-form team of Owen Coyle Bolton Wanderers.
