Revis finally returns to the Jets
Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets have finally have come to terms on a four-year cornerback deal, meaning Revis will be back with the team for the first time since June. Revis rejoined his team-mates on Monday. The deal is reportedly worth $46 million and will see Revis get $32 million guaranteed.
Revis had been holding out for a new contract since 1 August. He played in the Pro Bowl last year and was often considered the best cornerback in the league, and had expressed his desire to be paid the most out of any player at his position. His salary will fall slightly short of that, but he’ll make much more than the $1 million than he was set to earn this year. He’d signed a six-year rookie contract worth very little money, but had very quickly begun to outplay his salary. He was set to enter the fourth year of his contract.
Despite going through a dispute that at times got very acrimonious, and looked like it would see Revis sit out the entire season in protest, his team-mates were glad to see him back on Monday.
"It was just good to see him," defensive tackle Kris Jenkins said. "He is a big part of this team and as much as some of us like to stick our shoulders up and our chests out about how good we are, this is a 53-man game and you need everybody. Having him back really puts the icing on the cake."
The agreement was reached after himself, his mother and his uncle sat down with coach Rex Ryan and owner Woody Johnson on Sunday to try and resolve the dispute. Finally, with the agreement, the Jets have now put together another crucial piece of the puzzle. They’ll be trying to make another run at the Super Bowl, having fallen in the AFC Conference final last year.
