  1. absolutely not

get a song without lyrics, judges usually hate lyrics, especially ones like those

    sorry...

Get a nice band/orchestra tune that has an upbeat rhythm.

good luck and I'm sure you'll do well in your show regardless of what song you choose!

  2. Personally? I don't like it at all.. The gun shots get annoying, the tempo stays the same, the lyrics sound like they just repeat themselves and they are horribly hard to understand. And don't think I'm someone who's old - I'm only two years older than the top age you've listed. Another thing to worry about is your horse spooking to the gun shots. =\ Good luck

  3. better then the last one, but it may be hard to get all the required moves in, free walk and collected trot just may not fit in there, and I'm not sure how the canter work would work with it, but its getting better!

its best to find a song that changes alot musically, from slow to fast to slow to quite to loud, it makes it easier to put your horses movement and give it "personality"

Also, this one, with the gun shots and cash register wouldn't be appreciated by judges over the age of 18. lol.

  4. Agree with all previous answers.  Gun shots and "ka-ching" bothered me.  No canter transition.

Freestyle to music should look like the horse is dancing.  That song is too frenetic - reminds me of the way Shetland ponies trott.

  5. well its a good song with the beat and everything [hilarious for the trailer of pineapple express] but the lyrics are not something judges will like.. if you can get a version of it without the actual lyrics or gunshot/cash register... then i would go for it, if not go for something more.. proper for lack of a better word..

  6. One, the lyrics and the gunshot or whatever they are noises are not good. Judges do not like lyrics because it distracts them from actually watching the horse. Some people use limited lyrics which is fine if used properly, such as Steffen Peters and Ravel had lyrics going during his pirouette. So you should take out the lyrics.

Two, freestyles usually contain movements seen in a regular test. The tempo in that song is too slow for your horse, presumably. It would be more suitable for a passage or piaffe. And you should also consider that not all gaits have the same tempo, canter is somewhat slow but has more action in it, so a semi slow tempo with strong action would be suitable for that. The trot has a regular tempo with steady action. And the walk has a slow tempo with very little action, alot of people have a good tempo in the walk, but too much music action and it makes the horse look like he's jigging.

Here's some examples of great freestyles:

If you notice, in all of these videos the tempo changes with each gait, both in horse and the music. The music also matches the horses in their tempo and actually makes the horse look even better than they really are.

For finding music, I highly recomend that you listen around for songs that you can see yourself riding to. And I would also suggest that you listen to not just hit music, but music from other genres, such as classical or anything like that. And when you have finally complied a list of songs for your final freestyle, then keep them all in the same genre, or have similar instruments used in them. It's not pretty when you have dancey, discoey music and then you make a transition into orchestras, that's just werid.

    Good luck!!
