Revival of Indo-Pak cricket ties a matter between the BCCI and PCB: Indian Foreign Secretary – Cricket News Update
Following a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Jalil http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbas-c41488 Jilani, India’s Foreign Secretary Ranajan Mathai said that while both governments were supportive of the initiative to revive sporting ties between the two nations, ultimately the decision rested
with the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board.
"As for resumption of cricketing ties, this is a matter between the BCCI and the PCB. There are issues of security as well. However, as you will see in the joint statement we have emphasised the need to promote sports contacts between the two countries,"
said Mathai.
Jilani expressed similar encouragement, claiming that both parties were progressing on the right track in regards to this issue.
"I had discussion for the revival of cricket ties between the two countries. I think that we will continue with this formative trajectory that we have adopted over the years in moving forward in our relationship," Jilani said.
The cricketing ties between both countries came to a deadlock following the 2008 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, in 2007,
although the two teams have faced each other in international tournaments since then, such as the 2011 World Cup in India, and most recently the Asia Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 this March.
The PCB has expressed eagerness at the prospect of the resumption of ties, offering to send their team to India, or host the Men In Blue at a neutral venue (Pakistan has been unable to host teams on home soil following terrorist attacks in Lahore on the
visiting Sri Lankan team in 2009).
The BCCI initially refused to entertain any proposals regarding series with Pakistan, citing the Indian team’s busy international schedule as the reason behind their refusal. However, recent developments, such as the BCCI’s invitation to PCB chairman Zaka
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions in the upcoming Champions League T20, have served as ice-breakers.
Both boards are currently in talks regarding a short series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and India, tentatively scheduled for December this year, to be played in between England’s tour of India.
