Revival of international cricket in Pakistan will be the foremost agenda of MCC World Cricket Committee’s meeting to be held in Cape Town, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 next week.
The MCC World Cricket committee is scheduled to meet in Cape Town on 8th and 9th of this month under the chairmanship of its newly appointed chief, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Michael-Brearley-c68348. This will be the first meeting led by Brearley, who took over from the
retired http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anthony-Robert-Lewis-c45084.
A media statement issued by the MCC on Wednesday revealed that Pakistan will be the focus in the two-day meeting .
“A range of issues into the governance of the game will be explored by the committee, with particular focus on Pakistan and the situation regarding the return of international cricket to the nation,” read the MCC statement.
Pakistan has not hosted a single international match since March 2009 when the on tour Sri Lankan cricket team was targeted by some militants in the provincial capital Lahore. The situation was worsened by a series of suicide blasts across the country in
response to the government’s war against terror.
The plunging security situation in Pakistan also deprived the country of hosting rights of the esteemed world cup event in 2011, causing a huge financial loss to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The postponement of the much awaited Test Championship and Day/Night Test matches will also be discussed during the meeting.
“The committee will discuss the ICC’s postponement of the 2013 World Test Championship. Day/night Test cricket and the impact of worldwide testing of pink cricket balls will also be covered,” the MCC statement read further.
Test cricket, the premium format of the game, has apparently lost its fame with the advent of Twenty20 cricket. ICC and several other cricket organisations have been working hard to find a formula to preserve the pinnacle form of the game. Organizing a Test
Championship and Day and Night Test matches are also part of the measures http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 is mulling over in this regard. But the Test Championship, which was scheduled to be held in 2013 was postponed last year and cannot be organised before 2017.
