Revoked license in NC. Can I still get one in CA?

My drivers license was recently revoked due to failure to appear in court. I was unable to appear in court because I moved across the country because of a family emergency. I am in the process of paying off my ticket, however, I am now wanting to get my CA license. If my NC license is revoked, am I still able to get a CA license or are all of my driving privileges revoked?

  1. No..

  2. CA will not give you a license. They have access to files from all the other states, and will recognize the revocation from NC.

You need to contact the court in NC and find out what you need to do to have the revocation lifted.

  3. No, California has a very strict driving policy. In fact, if you get pulled over in CA while driving on a revoked license, they will throw you in jail and can literally take away your car!

Contact an attorney in North Carolina and see if he/she can represent you in court and plead your case. I know it could be expensive, but it beats doing time in a crowded California jail.

  4. LOL, I Swear I just moved to Tennessee a month ago from Michigan. I just went to the DMV last week to get my license changed from MI to TN and I couldn't because of a ticket i got in N.C.... 14 YEARS AGO! Here is the kicker, I paid the $150 ticket 13 years ago, but I missed the $50 reinstatement fee to the DMV, I had just paid the fine to the court. Take care of it, N.C. doesn't play around.
