Rewilding takes clear victory in Sheema Classic: Horse Racing
Saturday was indeed a big day for the fans of horse racing and all those involved in the horse business, as the Dubai World Cup began. The Meydan racecourse offered a great deal of quality racing and all the spectators and connections enthusiastically cheered
on their favourite horses. It was a great experience watching some of the most talented and champion racehorses from across the world race each other.
As for the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic that took place at the Meydan racecourse, the champion colt Rewilding proved his talent by landing the Goldolphin treble. The race was run over a distance of one mile and four furlongs on a turf surface and was open
to racehorses of age three and above.
The champion horse trains under the care of the famed trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni and was ridden by jockey Frankie Dettori. On the opening night of the prestigious Dubai World Cup, Rewilding made six from six and gave a spectacular performance in the Sheema
Classic.
The colt did not find it hard at all to thrust himself in to the lead under the champion jockey Frankie Dettori. The duo was able to hold off the field and took a clear lead when there was still a hundred metre to the race.
When trainer Al Zarooni was approached by reporters after the victory in the Sheema Classic, he said, “He’s a really big horse and that will take a lot out of him. We have to treat him very carefully like a filly.”
Al Zarooni added that there were quite a few options for the Colt's future races. He said, “Simon Crisford (Goldolphin racing manager) and the boss will decide, but there are plenty of options including the Coronation Cup.”
Before the race, there was a lot of discussion regarding the racehorse Laaheb, as he was being saddled by the new trainer Roger Varian after his former mentor retired due to ill health.
Nonetheless, the racehorse was under constant pressure from the colt Dangerous Midge during the course of the race, even though he was in the early lead. Laaheb eventually gave up to the contender Rulership, who was running under the famed jockey Christophe
Soumillon.
