  1. if your wiring is this old then you should have a periodic inspection and test done by a qualified  registered electrician.earth bonding from 25yrs ago is no longer acceptable and rcd protection of circuits is now a must.

  2. if in the UK page 4 of the regs says "existing installation that have been installed to inacordance to earlier editions of the regulations may not comply with this edition in every respect. This does not nessarily mean they are unsafe for continued use or require upgrading" even in the new regs you dont have to have a rcd on every circute as its not primary protection its only additional protection, there are lots of ocassions where you dont need one or wouldnt want one. however for domestic use i would have one on most circutes. What i would do is find a sparky you know/trust and get him to test your house and tell you what condition its in, if its ok fine if not he may be able to repair/replace the failing circute. and in the mean time save up for the job as it will need doing one day

ps if the wiring ok you can get a new consumer unit fitted to give you rcd protection on rings, lights and shower with out changing your wiring as can be sleeved to the new colour codes

  3. On average a House should be rewired every 10 years for safety reasons..

  4. I would get it checked out, get a qualified electrician to check things out and to give you a quote for any work required. Get more than one quote and try to get recommendations from friends who have had work done. Would think wiring would be best checked after 15-20 years.

  5. yes you ned to think about it get a periodic inspection carried out by a qualified electrician

  6. No, the wiring should be fine.

If anything, check the connections at the circuit breakers, neutral and grounding buss, and devices.

  7. It's probably OK for another 15 years. (If it was done 'right' at the start and only competent work has been done). I've certainly seen & tested wiring that old and it's been fine.

Trouble comes when any changes/additions that you want to make are required to be to the latest set of regulations, so the least you would have to do is RCD every changed circuit, (probably change the consumer unit) which can lead to nuisance trips at which point you will wish you had had the whole shebang rewired when you could...
