It's like saying 8 slices = 1 pizza

you can multiply anything by 1 and that is what the fraction equals.

So for your first:

2 yds (3 feet/1 yd)(12 in./1 foot) = 72 inches

72 in.

24 in.

Each term within a parenthesis is equal to 1.

yd/yd = 1 so you cross out the yd, feet/foot = 1, etc.
