The 5 to 1 entry for the race, Rex Romanorum, has raced through three seasons now but the total instances at which he has been active are just five. It was only during the current season and that too through the most recent outing that the four-year-old Irish bay gelding won for the first time during the career.
The Patrick Holmes trained ended seventh in the ABF Soldiers’ Charity Maiden Stakes on 12th May, 2012 at Thirsk over a mile.
The race was won by, Exclusive Dancer.
After ending third in the second outing of the season, he finally won the Colstrope Cup Handicap on 20th July, 2012 at Pontefract over a mile. The favourite entry put up the most impressive performance by taking up the lead after racing from the second stall and then maintaining it to the wire. He picked up the gear when there remained the final three furlongs. Staying strong had him winning the race by the margin of 3 ¼ lengths.
Finishing the closest to the winner was, Elijah Pepper, who was soon followed by, Kian’s Joy.
The bay gelding will race from the sixth gate with the jockey, Duran Fentiman.
Leading by 7 to 2 odds in the field today is the five-year-old, Hayek.
Royal Applause’s gelding has raced ten times during the current season but has only been able to win twice. Hayek won the Trafford Centre High Heels Competition Handicap on 29th June, 2012 at Chester over 7 ½ furlongs. Riding with jockey, Adam Carter, he defeated Goldstorm by just half a length.
His next success was in the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Handicap on 29th July, 2012 at Carlisle over seven furlongs. With jockey Adam Carter onboard, the Tim Easterby trained won the race by the mere margin of a head and set Amoure Medici as the runner-up.
He will race in partnership with jockey, Adam Carter, today.
