Rex Ryan tries to stir Jets’ Mark Sanchez into action – NFL News
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan appears to have taken a new step to stir Mark Sanchez into action. The quarterback has fared poorly in recent two games and Ryan decided that there was a need to strongly motivate Sanchez into fighting
back.
Sanchez was asked to sit for a few games during practice while Mark Brunell was given the chance. The former is apparently angry but has resorted to silence on the way he is being treated. Talking about his relationship with Sanchez,
Ryan said, "He has not said one word. He probably knows what I'm doing. I know Mark Sanchez extremely well. ... If it takes me to do this, and take a punch in the nose, I don't care. I'll take it. But we got to have it from him. He's the guy. He's my guy.
And we have to have it from him." Ryan said.
Though Sanchez didn’t reveal it, he did appear offended at having been made to sit for a few plays.
This tactic had really proved successful for the coach last year. And the need for it to work this time has increased with the necessity for Jets to win Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets have faced crushing losses
in the last two games against the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos. With touchdowns scored in these games on interceptions against the quarterback, the pressure is now on Sanchez.
Back in December 2010, Sanchez was asked to sit during practice before a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sanchez rebelled refusing to leave the field and did well against Steelers. So Ryan is hopeful that the trick may work
again.
Sanchez talking to reporters said he was not sure whether missing reps trouble him this time as they did last year. He confirmed that he was not talking to Ryan and agreed that the step taken by Ryan was aimed at motivating him.
Sanchez appeared determined to improve his capability.
"Absolutely, and it starts with the quarterback position," he said. "I need to play much better than I'm playing. ... A lot of it is on me. I'll improve and this team will improve."
Mark Brunell on the other hand played cool over the matter saying Ryan and Sanchez had no issues with each other.
