Rexy Mainaky optimistic for better results from female shuttlers in SEA Games – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles coach, Rexy Mainaky is optimistic for good results from the female shuttlers in the upcoming SEA Games, which will kick off from Saturday, November 12, at Jakarta, Indonesia.
Malaysia’s females in the doubles squad have been playing good badminton and in the last few months as they produced good results in the recent events, which indicates that they have elevated their level of play.
Considering this performance of female players, the coach is quite confident that they will produce good results and repeat history of the last edition of this tournament when Malaysian females won the gold medal in team event and also in the individual category.
Rexy hopes that the Malaysian women will continue their good performance in the SEA Games and will win glory for their country. Among the female shuttlers, the coach is focusing on Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei, who have recently won the Women’s Doubles title in the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold, which ended up in the first week of October.
The coach is quite confident that Vivian and Woon Khe will play the central role for Malaysia in winning the gold medal in the team event of the tournament.
In the last edition of SEA Games, which took place in Laos, Malaysia’s Chin Eei h*i and Wong Pei Tty won the gold medal in the individual event and also helped the team in winning their first ever gold medal in team event’s category in the entire history of this event.
Rexy said, "Two years ago, nobody gave Malaysia a chance in the women's event but they proved that they can win gold by taking home two from Laos in the team and doubles events.”
The coach also said, “We are faced with a similar situation here where not much is expected of these players. Most of them are making their Sea Games debut and I don't want to put too much pressure on them and have them lose early. I want to see them rise to the occasion as the team did two years ago."
The event will start from tomorrow and the Malaysian shuttlers are spirited to win the gold medal in the Women’s Doubles category.
