Rexy Mainaky optimistic for female shuttlers to deliver at Uber Cup Qualifying Round
Malaysia’s Women’s Doubles national coach, Rexy Mainaky is optimistic for good results from female shuttlers in Uber Cup Qualifying Round despite the fact that competition will be very tough. The qualifying matches will be played in Macau from February 13-19.
In the Women’s Doubles pairs, Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei h*i, Vivian Kah Mun Hoo – Woon Khe Wei and Lim Yin Loo – Goh Liu Ying are included in the national squad for the qualifying matches.
In the Women’s Singles category, Sonia Cheah, Lydia Cheah, Sannatasah Saniru and Tee Jing Yi will raise Malaysian flag in the Uber Cup qualifying matches in Macau.
Malaysian females will compete in the qualifying round to secure their place in the Uber Cup Finals which will take place in China in the concluding week of May, 2012.
The competition will be for three tickets and all top teams of Asia will compete to win their spots for the Uber Cup Finals.
Among the contestants will be Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, India, Macau, Vietnam and Kazakhstan. South Korea and China have already made their way into the Finals.
However, according to Rexy, all top nations will be competing in the qualifying round and it will be a challenging task for female shuttlers of Malaysia to overpower their rivals.
Rexy also mentioned that Malaysian shuttlers can challenge their opponents particularly in Women’s Doubles event. He admitted that Japan is the best side but he is optimistic for a good performance from Malaysian contestants.
He said, “It isn’t an easy task. Japan are the strongest but I reckon we can still challenge the others in the doubles department. Khe Wei injured her ankle during the Malaysia Open but she is better now. We are helping her regain her strength and movement on court.”
However, Malaysia has a quivering chance to qualify in the Uber Cup Finals because the team has no strength in the category of Women’s Singles.
On the other hand, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Japan are stronger in the Singles category as they have better shuttlers.
But if Malaysian females deliver hundred percent results in Doubles matches, their chances will be bright to make the cut.
