Rexy Mainaky says Asian shuttlers are favourites to lift title at the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s Doubles coach, Rexy Mainaky, is sure that Asian shuttlers are favourites for the Men’s Doubles crown at the 2011 World Championships, which will take place in the Wembley Arena, London, from August 8.
Rexy said that top pairs including China’s Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun, Indonesia’s Markis Kido - Hendra Setiawan and Korea’s Lee Yong Dae - Jung Jae Sung have equal chances to win the title in London.
While talking about the Danish pair including Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe, Rexy said that they have achieved wonderful success in their career, however, this time Asians have a strong chance to win the title by beating the European duo.
However, Rexy expressed his views about the prospects of Mads Conrad Petersen and Jonas Rasmussen of Denmark by saying that they have more chances to perform well in the event, as compared to veteran team-mates, Carsten and Mathias.
The coach said, “Boe-Mogensen have been shaky since the All England. Experienced pairs like Cai Yun-Haifeng can take advantage of the situation. If there is any European combination who we need to look out for, they are Rasmussen-Petersen as they have youth
and experience.”
While talking about the chances of Malaysia’s Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat in the World Championships, Rexy said that the pair should beat Yoo Yeon Seong and Ko Sung Hyun of Korea in the quarter-final of the event. If the Malaysians succeed, they are
expected to meet Carsten and Mathias in the semi-finals.
Rexy said, “Kien Keat-Boon Heong have beaten Boe-Mogensen on many occasions and it was a rare defeat for them in the All England final. If Kien Keat-Boon Heong are at their best, they can overcome Boe-Mogensen.”
Tan Boon and Koo Kien, who are currently placed at Number Four in the Men’s Doubles world rankings, have been quite inconsistent for the last one year. They have to be at their best and play flawless badminton if they want to beat the talented Korean and
Danish pairs to reach in the final of the World Championships.
