Rexy Mainaky set to relish the coaching opportunity in the Philippines – Badminton News
The badminton guru, Rexy Mainaky is ready to take on a new challenge as director of coaching in Philippines Badminton Association (PBA) after serving Malaysia for seven long years.
Former World and Olympic Champion Rexy joined Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in 2005 as Men’s Doubles coach and during his seven-year association he also worked as Women’s and Mixed doubles’ head coach. It looks like he has finally decided to move
on.
Rexy is now excited to start his new venture to groom the rising Philippines stars as he told that he was always looking for such challenging job to start things from scratch.
He said, "I have been here for the last seven years. It is enough. I decided to resign because I need a new challenge and I believe I will get the sort of challenge I am expecting, in the Philippines."
Rexy can be tagged as the best ever coach for Malaysian shuttlers as under his supervision they touched new heights. He was the person who discovered the chemistry between Kien Keat-Boon Heong and helped this male duo to seize the crowns in esteemed events
like Asian Games and All-England Open.
Moreover, he also guided the female couple Pei Tty-Eei h*i in their race for glory and now the Malaysian ladies are one of the strongest contender and biggest hope of country for coming London Olympics.
Rexy admitted that he had several coaching offers from established powers of badminton world where he would have earned easy money but he wanted to do more.
He said, "There were also offers from Indonesia and England while Russia was willing to pay me US$12,000 but my decision was not based just on money. I could have easily chosen Indonesia where talent is readily available but I want to do more."
Rexy Mainaky will start working as director of coaching with PBA from May 2 and he looked excited with this new challenge of grooming the Philippines youngsters. He intends to travel across the country to spot talented shuttlers and then train them under
his national training programme.
On the other hand, the coaching and training committee of BAM is meeting on April 26 to finalise the eligible replacement of the national coach Rexy Mainaky.
