Rexy Mainaky thinks Eei h*i, Pei Tty still in danger of losing Olympic spot – Badminton News
National coach Rexy Mainaky is still cautious about Malaysian Women’s Doubles team Chin Eei h*i-Wong Pei Tty and he commented that they need an extra effort to secure a spot in the 2012 London Olympics.
The long serving duo of Eei h*i-Pei Tty made a strong bid by reaching into the quarter-finals of Australian Open GP Gold 2012.
They bagged valuable ranking points during the Olympic qualification period which is going to end in May and only top 16 teams in May 3 world rankings will earn their spots in the mega event.
World Number 15 duo of Eei h*i-Pei Tty cemented their spot by stamping Indonesian couple Suci Rizki-Della Destiara and now they will meet Taipei arch-rivals Cheng Wen Hsing-Chien Yu Chin in the quarter-finals to pocket crucial ranking points.
However, the doubles guru Rexy Mainaky is still not content as he believes that the duo needs to perform beyond expectation to avoid any downfall.
He said, “Pei Tty and Eei h*i know that they will have to reach the final to confirm their place. For now, their position is still at risk.”
Last year, the Malaysian couple earned the honour to be in the final of Australian Open and this year it is a do-or-die situation for them as they are roped in an Olympic qualification race.
Their quarter-final tussle with World Number nine Taipei pair Wen Hsing-Yu Chin will be a make or break tussle for them.
National coach Rexy hoped that they will rise on their toes but he thinks the other Women’s Doubles team will have to face an Olympics snub.
He said, “I have decided that even if we have two pairs in the top 16, I will only choose the higher ranked for the Games. For now, Eei h*i-Pei Tty are the frontrunners. It is difficult for Khe Wei and Vivian to make the cut with only two tournaments remaining.”
The coach was referring to the upcoming events Asian Badminton Championships and India Super Series.
Earlier it was all over for the World Number 19 Malaysian couple Vivian Hoo-Khe Wei in the Australian Open as they knelt down against the Japanese duo of Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi.
It will be a huge task for the Malaysian ladies to make into the top 16 teams of the world with this kind of below par performances in upcoming events.
