Rexy Mainaky waits for the decision of Badminton Association of Malaysia for his coaching future
Malaysia’s Doubles chief coach, Rexy Mainaky is waiting for the decision of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) regarding his coaching future for the country.
Rexy is currently involved in the training of Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat, the World Number Five and top pair in Men’s Doubles of Malaysia. However, the credibility of Rexy as a coach is under observation particularly after the poor run of the shuttlers
at the 2011 World Championships.
Rexy has completely left the assessment with BAM to decide whether he is capable to train the top pair for the 2012 London Olympics or not. He did not make any claims of his worth but he is considered as one of the best coaches in the world of badminton
in the category of doubles.
Many rumours are also there that Tan Boon and Koo Kien are not willing to train under the supervision of Rexy anymore and they want to work with a new coach. However, Rexy said that the shuttlers have not yet indicated anything like that as he is in touch
with them.
Koo Kien did not attend the training session on Friday because of his commitment with a sponsor and he was busy in a commercial shoot. However, Tan Boon worked with Rexy in the training session.
Rexy said, “It was just a coincidence they had to miss training due to promotional activity with a sponsor and I excused them, and Boon Heong trained yesterday (Saturday).I have not heard anything about them refusing to train with me and they should attend
training tomorrow (Monday). If they don't, perhaps there is a problem and I want to hear it from the players.”
The coach further added, “Let the coaching and training committee decide on my future with Kien Keat-Boon Heong. It is hard to predict anything at the moment.”
Rexy has been serving Malaysia for the last five years and has helped shuttlers in winning numerous tournaments at the international stage. However, a cloud of doubt hangs over Rexy’s credibility as a chief coach as there are some officials who want a change
in the coaching setup.
