Rexy Mainaky wants young shuttlers to continue their spirited play in Uber Cup Preliminary Round
Rexy Mainaky, the Women’s Doubles national coach of Malaysia, is satisfied with the spirited play of young shuttlers against India and wants them to continue their sensational performance in the quarter-final clash against Thailand.
Malaysia’s young shuttlers put up a superb show of top class badminton against India in the last group match and bagged it with a 3-2 margin which earned them a berth in the quarter-final of the tournament.
Among the potential shuttlers in Malaysian squad, who can deliver well in the quarter-final battle, are Yang Li Lian, Goh Liu Ying, Lim Yin Loo and Vivian Hoo. All of these female players are young as no one among these ladies is above 23 years of age that mean they have a long way to go ahead.
The most senior shuttlers in the Malaysian team are Chin Eei h*i and Wong Pei Tty, who delivered a good performance but the terrific performances of young shuttlers stole them the limelight against India.
The coach, Rexy is planning to utilise scratch pairs in the quarter-final of the event and he wants shuttlers to play to their maximum potential and fight till the end.
According to the coach, winning against India has boosted the confidence of players and they are expected to continue their elevated play at the knock-out stage as well.
He said, "The win against India has given the girls confidence and I expect the younger players to play a big part in helping Malaysia qualify. It is still early to say whether we can reach that far but these players are going to battle till the end."
While talking about the game plan, Rexy said that there are options to use scratch pairs. He also appreciated the performance of Li Lian in the group match against India and said that it will also inspire other young players in the team.
He said, "The performances of Liu Ying, Yin Loo and Vivian are good which means we can even use two scratch pairs where Eei h*i can play with one of them. Li Lian's fighting quality is a very refreshing and it can also lift the spirit of Tee Jing Yi and Lydia.”
Malaysia needs to win this quarter-final fight against Thailand as it will earn them a place in the Uber Cup Finals, which will be held in Wuhan, China, from May 20-27.
